Self-Reliance

1.)Discuss the meaning of the verse perceiving the essay?
The meaning is to not seek outside yourself.
We are individuals.
As and individual we are good.

2.)Looking at the entire essay what does Emerson mean by self-reliance? Summarize the major points.
Emerson means that we need to use our own minds and not let people control us.
Think your own thoughts.
Take everything in and come out with your best thinking.

3.)Interpret the first sentence. What does every person realize at some moment of his or her education?
We are trying to be forced to do things in a certain way.
We should be mined full.

4.)"The eye was placed where one ray should fall, that it might testify of that particular ray." What does it mean?
WE can think about and explain it.(Particular ray)

5.)What does Emerson mean by "The devine idea which each of us represents."
We are all special in our own way and can contribute with other people.

6.)Explain the significance of the iron string, why do you think Emerson used iron rather than silk, gold, or silver string.?
Emerson used iron because iron is stronger than the other things.

Transcendentalism-To go above and beyond the rules.

Society is changing us from who we really are and are making us go against each other.

Be independent is the opposet o society and the only way to be free.

10.)Interpret the metaphor "A follish consistancy is the hob goblin of little mines by little statesman, and philosophours and devines.
There is to much consistency and that we choose to stick to what is known and constantly done.

11.)Discuss the use of the simile words as hard as cannon balls.
That are words are strong and impact on things that you never thought could be affected.

12.)Right a paragraph expressing your reactions to the essay.
This essay is basically saying that people are trying to control us and force us to think and do what they say. It is also saying that we need to avoid that and think for ourselves. I would agree with this essay because I think that we need to avoid that and start to think for ourselves. This also makes me think of all the different way people are trying to control us without us knowing it.
