Applied Modernism

Modernism

Modernism is the breaking away from classical tradition of literary forms to something different than anyone has read before in the 1900's. In Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury is a modernism novel because of the vision of the future and the inner self conflict that Montag faces in the story.

Fahrenheit 451 is based in the future and is different that anyone expected it to be. This is why Fahrenheit 451 is  modernist novel because the future has everyone doing the wrong jobs. For example, the fire department is starting fires rather than putting them out and the cops are underneath the fireman. Another example as to why Fahrenheit 451 is modernist is because of the industrial society. In the book everything is done a certain way and people are taught to believe things the way higher people in society want them to see it.

The inner self conflict is also why Fahrenheit 451 is modernism because of the way Montag see's himself. For example, when Montag finishes talking to Clarisse he constantly doubts himself throughout the story and isn't sure of what is right or wrong. Because the book is based on industrial society, Montag is used to doing certain things in certain ways and Clarisse makes him question it all within a matter of seconds.

Fahrenheit 451 is a Modernist Book because it is written differently than books are normally written. It also claims things that could happen in the future and it has inner self conflict with Montag.
